The Golden Keyboard Awards: Everybody was right. Nobody won.

Washington Edition: Everybody Was Right. Nobody Won.

Giants 27, Commanders 27 | October 11, 2026

Yes, BBI deleted my account.

Yes, I still read BBI.

There. We can cancel the congressional hearing.

I posted there for well over two decades. There are people on that board whose opinions I value, whose information I want to read, and who had nothing to do with deleting my account. BW, bw in dc, Milton, JonC, and plenty of others: I still want to hear what you have to say. That includes the people who have been friendly to me over the years. This isn't an exhaustive guest list.

I hope some of you come over here and join the conversation.

In my opinion, BBI's greatest value has always been its posters. The people bringing information, checking facts, arguing football, and occasionally making me laugh hard enough to forget what the Giants just did. The owners' content generally leaves me cold. Much of what makes the place worth reading comes from the community doing the work of a good football discussion.

Deleting my account didn't make those people less worth reading.

It also didn't make the game threads less entertaining.

So yes, I'm going to lampoon them here every week. Public football takes, complete with receipts. If you've prematurely buried the season, revived it, and buried it again before the next commercial break, there may be a trophy in your future.

You're welcome to come here and give it right back. I won't delete your comment because you disagree with me or take a shot at me. You'll have your say. I'll answer. If I've quoted you wrong, missed the context, or gotten a fact wrong, point it out. I'll correct it.

If you enjoyed my stuff over there, you'll find it here: the humor, the football, and plenty of positive Giants content.

Now, there's something I actually love about a BBI game thread. It captures what watching the Giants in somebody's living room feels like. We say outrageous shit. We overreact. A missed tackle becomes a referendum on every decision the franchise has made since electricity.

I know this because I participated in Sunday's festivities without requiring a keyboard.

Before anybody else gets a trophy, mine goes on the mantel.

1. The Golden Heavy Bag

Winner: Me

Toward the end of the game, I lost my fucking mind.

I went into my workout room and beat the shit out of my heavy bag. Picture frames shook around the house. My dog ran outside.

An excellent read by the dog. Recognized the situation, found the exit, executed.

Meanwhile, I was attempting to improve the Giants' clock management by punching an object in another room.

I came back and watched them finish with a tie. Then I had to admit that, given how the afternoon had gone, the tie was a good thing.

Which left me confronting the considerably less flattering result of my own performance: I'd just spent that portion of my life acting like a toddler who'd been told no.

A toddler with a workout room.

Painful fucking realization.

So understand the seating arrangement for this ceremony. I'm right here with you. My Sunday analysis briefly consisted of hitting a bag hard enough to rearrange the atmosphere.

My trophy: a juice box and an apology to the dog.

2. The Nostradumbass Award

Winner: Knickstape

At 3:39 p.m.:

Gonna finish 5-12

By 3:49, Knickstape was already treating the Giants as 3–2.

The game was still being played.

Why wait for the result when you've got a keyboard and a bad feeling? The NFL insists on completing games, an administrative burden the BBI forecasting department has eliminated.

The Giants finished the afternoon 3–1–1. The season prediction remains available for later grading. Sunday's loss, however, was entered into the record a little early.

Your trophy: a crystal ball with the fourth quarter disabled.

3. The Golden Weathervane

Winner: bigbluewillrise

At 2:59, Washington had the better quarterback and game plan, and the game was declared finished. At 3:03, Dan Quinn had our number.

At 4:08:

LET WINSTON COOOOOOK HE CAN PASS

The kitchen reopened.

Winston improved. Changing your assessment as the evidence changes is perfectly reasonable. But the trip from football extinction to opening night at Chez Jameis deserves recognition.

The handle is bigbluewillrise. Apparently the rising requires several preliminary death certificates.

Your trophy: a chef's hat mounted on a weather vane.

4. The Never Takes Over Games Memorial Trophy

Winner: MayoG70

At 2:41, MayoG70 said he'd been making this case about Nabers “for years,” then dismissed him as someone who never takes over games and isn't a true playmaker.

At 2:45, j_rud supplied the rookie production and last season's Dallas performance.

An unfortunate interruption by the exhibits.

Nabers finished Sunday with 11 catches, 121 yards, and a touchdown.

You can criticize a dropped pass. You can demand more from a great receiver. But never is an ambitious word to use about somebody who's still capable of ruining your argument before dinner.

Your trophy: an eraser large enough to remove the rest of the game.

5. The General Manager of Assets We May No Longer Own

Winner: short lease

At 3:35, short lease wanted a fifth- or sixth-round pick for Thibodeaux in the offseason.

At 3:36, aquidneck and jeff57 supplied the contractual complication: impending free agency.

Thibodeaux's current deal runs through this season. An offseason trade proposal needs to account for that.

The negotiations had begun before anyone checked whether we'd still own the merchandise.

Under this approach to asset management, I'd also like to trade my neighbor's truck for a second-round pick. Good motor. Strong frame. Ownership details to follow.

Your trophy: an unsigned bill of sale.

6. The Captain Hindsight Medal

Winner: AcidTest

After the overtime fumble, at 4:42, AcidTest said the Giants should have kicked immediately.

Another 4:42 post referred back to that advice.

Yes. The advice in the preceding post. After the fumble.

The warning arrived with the accident report attached.

There is a real decision to debate: clock management, kick distance, conditions, and the risk of another run. But once the ball is on the ground, the hindsight department has a substantial advantage.

Using this forecasting method, I've correctly predicted every Super Bowl immediately after the confetti.

Your trophy: a smoke detector that activates when the insurance adjuster arrives.

7. Best Character Arc

Winner: Anakim

At 3:38, Anakim concluded the Giants had given up.

At 4:36:

I BELIEVE IN YOU, JAMEIS!

We have completed the redemption arc.

But there's something to appreciate here. At 2:18, Anakim had explicitly left room to look back and laugh at his frustration.

Then the football changed, and his reaction changed with it.

Good. A comeback ought to be enjoyable. Imagine sitting there furious because your team is threatening to invalidate your post.

I was busy invalidating my dignity in the workout room, so I understand how these afternoons get away from us.

Your trophy: a bandwagon pass with unlimited reboarding.

8. The Broadcast Investigation Award

Winner: short lease

At 3:21, short lease offered the practical solution to the Vilma complaints: turn the volume down or off.

By 3:51, he was calling for an investigation.

Thirty minutes from remote control to subpoena.

Vilma's commentary was fair game for criticism. The investigation proposal came without supporting evidence.

The mute button, meanwhile, remained available throughout the proceedings. No warrant required.

Your trophy: a remote control sealed in an evidence bag.

9. The Fastest Withdrawal of a Victory Lap

Winner: LFG_Giants

At 4:40, LFG_Giants took credit for having called the late success blocking and running the ball.

At 4:41, after the fumble, he acknowledged a jinx.

One minute from offensive consultant to paranormal investigator.

I appreciate the self-own. Still, this is a magnificent professional arrangement: the successful run belongs to the analyst; the turnover belongs to the supernatural.

If my forecast works, pay me. If it fails, summon a priest.

Your trophy: a victory ribbon that retracts before you cross the finish line.

10. The Actual Comedy Award

Winner: BigBlueBuff

At 4:23, BigBlueBuff appreciated Winston's pump fake beyond the line of scrimmage.

Perfect.

The useful part of the scramble had already happened. Jameis then added a passing audition for a ball he couldn't legally throw.

Some quarterbacks move the chains. Jameis moves the chains and pitches a spin-off.

That's the kind of thing a game thread catches beautifully: the ridiculous little moment we're all watching while trying to decide whether this man is saving the afternoon or extending our sentence.

Your trophy: a football mounted on a miniature stage.

11. Outstanding Guest Contribution

Winner: Washington's final overtime possession

The Giants squandered their chance to win with a fumble. Washington then reached field-goal range and let the clock expire after Daniels ran with no timeouts left.

An exchange of gifts so generous it required overtime.

Dan Quinn's team had a chance to finish the afternoon with a kick. Instead, it contributed an ending too stupid to improve through exaggeration.

For much of the afternoon, the thread had admired what Washington was doing. Then Washington submitted its final project.

Nothing says commanding the situation like needing the clock to stop and choosing a play that keeps it running.

Your trophy: a stopwatch. Batteries included. Instructions strongly recommended.

12. The Apparently You Can Keep Watching Award

Winners: IchabodGiant and Mad Mike

At 2:06, IchabodGiant described a route back: defensive stops and offensive adjustments. At 3:04, he wanted the deficit reduced to one possession, then to see what happened.

Mad Mike credited Winston's improvement, then recognized both the squandered win and the value of the comeback.

A dangerous development: proportion.

They saw the problems and kept watching for a way out. That's useful football discussion. It's also one of the reasons I still read the place.

Their analysis aged considerably better than my decision to fight the exercise equipment.

Your trophies: televisions that display all four quarters, plus overtime.

13. Best Headline

Winner: sb from NYT Forum

At 4:55:

Giants beat Commanders, 27-27

Print it.

That captured the emotional arithmetic of the afternoon better than another thousand posts could.

Your trophy: the sports editor's chair.

Now That We've All Had Our Little Episode

The criticism is deserved. The procedural mistakes were costly. The offense struggled for too much of the afternoon. Daniels hurt the Giants with his legs. Zvada missed three field goals. Skattebo's fumble squandered a chance to finish the comeback with a win.

Winston also threw for 326 yards and three touchdowns. The Giants came back from 27–13. The late defensive pressure helped get them to overtime.

That matters. The team kept playing long after some of us had finished explaining why it wouldn't.

The standings after this week's games:

Giants: 3–1–1. Eagles: 2–3. Cowboys: 2–3. Commanders: 1–3–1.

The Giants gained half a game on Philadelphia and Dallas, and lead both by a game and a half.

An ugly tie deserves criticism. It also deserves the correct fucking arithmetic.

I'll be here next week with more football, more jokes, and whatever trophy my own behavior earns. If you think I've gotten something wrong, come say so. You'll get your say, and I'll answer.

The Giants got a tie. I got a lesson. The dog got the fuck out.

Apparently somebody in this house knows when to walk away.
